Zungu: Tanzania respects Serbia, goal is to work together in interest of our peoples

BELGRADE - Tanzanian Parliament Speaker Mussa Azzan Zungu said in Belgrade on Monday his country respected Serbia and that the goal was for the two countries to work together in the interest of their peoples and advance their cooperation in all areas.

At a press conference after a meeting with Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic, Zungu said Serbia would open an embassy in Tanzania and that, likewise, Tanzania would open an embassy in Serbia.

"This shows how much we cherish Serbia and how much we want to cement the future relations between our two countries and to work and walk together for the benefit of our peoples," he said, adding that Tanzania also wanted to boost trade relations with Serbia.

"Serbia is a country which we honour and respect, and we feel that Serbia, and Yugoslavia, under Tito, did a lot for our country in Africa and the liberation of African states during the colonial era. So, we thank this country, we thank the late Tito for the good work he did for Africa and for the world," he said.

Zungu also said his visit to Belgrade was a historic one and that he was the first Tanzanian official to visit Serbia.

He announced a Tanzanian delegation would come to Serbia by February 20 to assess ways to boost the number of Tanzanian tourists visiting Serbia.

He also said Tanzania wanted to see a large number of tourists from Serbia, as well as to develop its tourism cooperation with Europe through its friendship with Serbia.
