US committed to friendship with Serbia, Trump writes to Vucic in Statehood Day message

BELGRADE - Congratulating Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Serbia's Statehood Day (February 15), US President Donald Trump noted that the US was committed to strengthening further the firm friendship with Serbia as the two countries worked together on boosting bilateral trade and investments and on advancing the economic prosperity of their citizens.

In a message to Vucic, Trump wrote that Serbia had been the first foreign country whose flag had been flown over the White House in an honorary spot, the press office of the president of Serbia said in a statement on Friday.

Extending Statehood Day congratulations to Vucic and the people of Serbia on behalf of the people of the US, Trump noted that, during nearly all 250 years of the US's freedom, Serbia had been a good friend to his country.

Many other foreign officials, including Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping, have also congratulated Vucic on Statehood Day.
