BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Wednesday in Belgrade with the EU special envoy for the Belgrade-Pristina dialogue Peter Sorensen to discuss the current course of the dialogue and its resumption with more active EU engagement, with special focus on the position of Kosovo-Metohija Serbs.
In an Instagram post, Vucic wrote that the discussion had been open and that he had especially pointed out the challenges regarding the position of the Kosovo-Metohija Serbs.
"I especially voiced concern over Pristina's intentions to start enforcing from March 15 new escalatory and deeply discriminatory decisions that are a direct threat to the survival of the Serbs," he added.
He appealed to the international community to take those extremely important issues as seriously as possible and do everything to ensure respect for the rights of the Serbs.
"I also noted that the so-called Kosovo's joining of a regional military alliance escalates tensions further and threatens the security of the Serbs. I pointed out the necessity of taking concrete steps, without further delay, towards establishing a Community of Serb Municipalities, for which the Serbs in Kosovo-Metohija have been waiting for 13 years now," Vucic posted.
He noted that he believed it was in the interest of all parties to avoid moves leading to further escalation and to insist, with EU facilitation, on full implementation of undertaken commitments and preservation of peace and stability on the ground.
