WASHINGTON - The executive director of the US National Energy Dominance Council Jarrod Agen, with whom Serbian FM Marko Djuric has met in Washington, said he and Djuric had worked together to quickly find a solution for the Serbian oil company NIS that had helped both Serbia and the US.
NIS is under US sanctions due to its Russian majority ownership.
"On a very cold Sunday morning this past December, Serbian Foreign Minister Marko Djuric reached out to me with an energy emergency. We worked together to quickly find a solution that helped both Serbia and the US. He was just a voice over the phone on a snowy winter day, until today. I was so pleased to welcome him in person to the White House. Minister Djuric is a statesman who cares deeply about the Serbian people and increasing the energy partnerships with the United States," Agen wrote in an instagram post.
"We had a productive meeting with the Minister’s team and (Serbian) Ambassador Dragan Sutanovac on a wide range of important energy issues.
Huge opportunities under US President Trump, as our President is unleashing a golden age of energy abundance and driving new strong partnerships around the world," Agen concluded.
Djuric, who is on a working visit to Washington, met with Agen on Monday.
"The discussion focused on further deepening the strategic cooperation between Serbia and the United States in the field of energy, as one of the key issues of global stability, economic development, and security," the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
