BELGRADE - Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Gen Milan Mojsilovic said on Sunday evening Serbia was definitely committed to peace and that new missiles in the Serbian Armed Forces arsenal, which he noted had caused hysteria in the region, had not been purchased because of Zagreb, Sarajevo or Podgorica, but because of all those who meant no good to Serbia and intended "to impose their national and other interests by means of arms."
In an appearance on Pink TV, Mojsilovic said acquisitions of arms were a part of the Serbian Armed Forces' tasks defined by Serbian laws and the Constitution.
"That primary and most significant mission of defending Serbia from external threats is accomplished by defending the territory, defending the airspace and deterring armed threats," Mojsilovic said.
"When you pursue an independent policy, when you want to be independent and non-aligned militarily, you are a thorn in the side (to others) in terms of where you really belong. Everyone around us - nearly all countries - are NATO members. There are countries that might not like our conduct when it comes to cooperation with all structures of significance for Serbia's security from the East to the West, and there are definitely those who believe that a weak Serbia is a small problem," Mojsilovic said.
Commenting on alliance formed by Tirana, Zagreb and Pristina, Mojsilovic said any military alliance was aimed against someone.
"That is definitely different from the part that is related to bilateral military cooperation in some areas," the general said.
