BELGRADE - President of Serbia and Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) Presidency member Aleksandar Vucic said at the weekend Serbia's interests - good relations with both the East and the West - were the SNS policy.
"Our policy is a policy of peace, stability and security. Our policy is a policy of a country that is on the European path. We must be committed to those values and we still need to do much more," Vucic said at an SNS rally held at the Belgrade Arena on Saturday, ahead of next Sunday's local elections in ten cities and municipalities.
He noted that, in the past four and a half years, Serbia had demonstrated that it was a free and independent country.
"We did not want to give up on our friendship even with those who were ostracised and attacked by all. We know what sanctions are, we are the only country in Europe that has not imposed sanctions on the Russian Federation, the only country that does not agree to giving up on friendships with its traditional partners in the East. We are building good relations with the People's Republic of China, and we are building increasingly good relations - and we will build the best relations - with the US, and that is what our policy is, because, in a word, our policy is Serbia and its progress. Our policy is what Serbia's interests are," Vucic noted.
Vucic: Serbia to remain militarily neutral
BELGRADE - Serbia will remain a militarily neutral country and it will not be attacking anyone, but it must be strong enough to deter any potential aggressors, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said at the weekend.
"Our choice is to be a free, sovereign country and not to be a part of any military pact, and to protect our skies and our country on our own - as such, we must be strong enough to deter anyone from committing a potential aggression on our country," Vucic said at a Serbian Progressive Party (SNS) rally held at the Belgrade Arena on Saturday, ahead of next Sunday's local elections in ten cities and municipalities. "
Serbia is not a part of any military alliance and, in two or three years' time, it will be seen how those who are in military alliances such as NATO will fare," Vucic said.
He said his goal was Serbia's development.
"For that, we must be strong and we will be even stronger," Vucic added.
In response to threats to Serbia and the establishment of a military alliance of Pristina, Tirana and Zagreb, Vucic said:
"We have nothing against you and we will not be attacking you, but the only thing we are telling you is that Serbia is a tough nut to crack."
