BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met on Wednesday with State Secretary for Western Affairs at the Indian Ministry of External Affairs Sibi George, who is in Serbia for bilateral political consultations between his ministry and the Serbian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Djuric noted that Serbia was firmly committed to further strengthen the comprehensive cooperation with India while stepping up political dialogue and high- and top-level contacts.

He welcomed the holding of regular political consultations and said they represented an important mechanism for advancement of bilateral relations and lent a new impetus to their further development, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.

Djuric said he was pleased with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's recent visit to India and participation in an AI summit in New Delhi, and noted that Serbia had thus confirmed its strong commitment to development in that sector.

He also noted that he had recently met with Indian FM Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Munich and said he hoped Jaishankar would visit Serbia soon.

Djuric thanked India for its consistent support for the preservation of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, as well as for its principled position of non-recognition of the unilaterally declared independence of 'Kosovo', and said he hoped the position would remain unchanged.

Speaking about economic cooperation, Djuric noted that Serbia was an economically stable country focusing on dynamic development and major investments in infrastructure projects, and added that, in that context, he saw significant space for advancement of cooperation with India.
