Krkobabic: Decision on elections should be in citizens' interest, PUPS ready

BELGRADE - Milan Krkobabic, president of the Party of United Pensioners, Farmers and Proletarians of Serbia - Solidarity and Justice (PUPS) said on Monday dialogue was the only way out of accumulated problems and that a decision on whether to go to early parliamentary elections needed to be made in line with the situation in the country, the region and the world, and in the interest of the citizens.

The PUPS is ready for elections, Krkobabic told reporters after consultations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic at the Presidency of Serbia.

"The interest of Serbia, the interest of the citizens of Serbia must be the priority, rather than the interest of various political options, which, in my opinion, are legitimate. Whether this year will be a year of early elections or a pre-election year, with regular elections ahead of us next year, time will tell. We must be realistic, the situation is changing day by day, and hour by hour," Krkobabic said.

"A decision on elections should not be made abruptly and you must look at the broader picture and at what the interests of Serbian citizens are," he said, expressing the expectation "the right decision" would be made.

"As far as my party is concerned, our network of 130 municipal committees is actively capable of taking action, and it is normal that we are getting ready, and we are ready," Krkobabic said.

He added that the PUPS remained in favour of Serbia's EU path regardless of its length.
