BELGRADE - Speaking to reporters after a meeting with the UK's special Western Balkans envoy Karen Pierce and the signing of a contract with the pharmaceuticals company AstraZeneca, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said the deal provided the best medicines in the world to Serbian patients and ensured access to innovative oncological therapies.
"Today is an important and a great day for our country, for the Serbian health care system and, above all, for hundreds of thousands of our citizens who are battling with serious medical diagnoses. Thanks to the contracts we signed with AstraZeneca today, the Republic of Serbia has secured access to innovative oncological therapies in 10 new indications," Vucic said.
He noted that the medicines would help treat breast, lung, bladder, liver, bile duct and ovarian cancers.
"I am proud of the fact we have succeeded in securing the best and the most expensive medicines in the world," Vucic said.
The contract between the Serbian national health insurance fund and AstraZeneca was signed by the fund's Acting Director Sanja Radojevic Skodric and AstraZeneca Serbia Director Ksenija Purkovic.
