Karic: Elections should be held when president decides is best

BELGRADE - Speaking to reporters after consultations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Greens of Serbia leader Ivan Karic said on Tuesday his party was in favour of calling elections when the president decided it was best.

"As far as elections are concerned, we expressed support and agreed with whatever the president decides is best for the coming period," Karic said at the Presidency of Serbia.

"We reminded the president that, for ten years now, we have been a part of a steely coalition led by the Serbian Progressive Party and the president himself, and we welcomed, and agreed with, his proposals regarding free trade and Schengen and free travel as the two most important things," Karic said.

Vucic has initiated the consultations to discuss early parliamentary elections and Serbia's actions in complex international circumstances when it comes to security and energy.

Nikolic: Russian Party believes elections should be held at year's end

BELGRADE - Speaking to reporters after consultations with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic, Russian Party leader Slobodan Nikolic said on Tuesday the party was an advocate of holding elections at the end of this year.

"We believe elections should not be held in summer months. We will run in those elections for a fifth time, and we are hoping for results that will be twice as good as those we had in the most recent elections," Nikolic said, adding that the party was against EU integration and in favour of Russia and BRICS.

He noted that the Russian Party had 15 representatives across 12 municipal assemblies, as well as a provincial assembly member and an MP, but was not a part of executive authorities, which he said "debunked the myth" that it was "leaning" on the ruling Serbian Progressive Party.
