BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut said on Thursday Serbia lacked consensus on strategic state affairs and future goals and that the time was not ripe for early elections, but that the priority was to reduce tensions in the society and establish a culture of dialogue.
"I think the time is not ripe for elections and that is much more mature to stabilise the society and reduce tensions, to hold normal discussions and have a culture of dialogue, which I am really appealing for," Macut said in an appearance on K1 TV.
Commenting on his government's one year in office, Macut said it was a great honour and a responsibility for him to be PM and to have been asked by the president to assume the post at "a critical time."
He noted that his role should be understood as a reconciliatory one and added that it was necessary to establish a consensus of dialogue.
"I am absolutely for dialogue and for establishing some kind of consensus about what the strategic issues for Serbia actually are and about what we want in the future," Macut said.
