BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic held a phone conversation with European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on Wednesday, and noted that the discussion, which addressed key issues of the Serbia-EU relationship, had been good and open and that he had highlighted Serbia's commitment to accelerated implementation of reforms.
"I highlighted Serbia's commitment to accelerated implementation of substantial reforms in the fields of rule of law, advancement of the judicial system, strengthening the independence of institutions, as well as to implementation of media laws and a set of reform laws, in line with Venice Commission recommendations," Vucic posted on his buducnostsrbije Instagram account after the conversation with von der Leyen.
He noted that Serbia continued to work, in a responsible and committed manner, on alignment with European standards.
Thanking von der Leyen for her personal engagement, Vucic said he expected the cooperation with the European Commission to continue to provide clear support for reform efforts and for an accelerated process of Serbia's EU accession.
"We also exchanged views on current regional and global challenges," Vucic noted in the post, adding that he had reiterated to von der Leyen that stability, cooperation and a responsible policy were crucial for the future of the Western Balkans and Europe.
