BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met with EU Commissioner for Internal Affairs and Migration Magnus Brunner in Belgrade on Wednesday, noting that EU membership remains Serbia's strategic commitment and one of its most important foreign policy priorities, as well as that the country aims to meet all membership requirements by the end of 2026.
In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic wrote that the discussion had been open and substantial, addressing Serbia's EU path and cooperation on interior affairs, migration and boosting security.
"For us, it is crucial that the enlargement policy remains high on the agenda of European institutions and the member states, with a clear, predictable and credible process. I especially noted that, though a responsible attitude to migration, cooperation with EU FRONTEX and countries in the region, as well as through alignment of the visa policy, Serbia has demonstrated that it shares European values, protects joint security and remains a dependable partner of the EU," Vucic noted.
He added that Serbia remained firmly committed to cooperation with the EU on the foreign and security policy to the highest possible extent while safeguarding its own vital national, political and economic interests.
"We will continue to contribute to stability on the European continent, to strengthening energy security, better management of migration flows, border protection, resilience to hybrid and cyber threats, as well as to strengthening security across the region," Vucic posted.
He added that he had highlighted the significance of regional cooperation and implementation of reforms under the Growth Plan for the Western Balkans, especially those expediting Serbia's economic integration with the EU single market.
"We expect the process to remain based on results, fair treatment and without additional political conditions being set, because it is only in that way that it can fully contribute to quicker progress on the EU path of Serbia and the whole region," Vucic noted.
