BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic handed Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko a letter for Russian President Vladimir Putin in which he congratulated him on WWII Victory Day, noting that May 9 remains an eternal symbol of non-subjugation and heroism of the Serbs and Russians.

"I noted that our obligation is to preserve the memory of all the victims who lost their lives on the side of law and justice, and that Serbia will not permit attempts of rewriting history. I stressed that we will forever remember the enormous and decisive role of the Red Army in the liberation of our country and Europe," Vucic posted on Instagram.

He added that he had also discussed with Botsan-Kharchenko the Serbia-Russia bilateral relations, with special focus on cooperation in the energy sector, noting that security of supply was crucial for Serbia.

"We also exchanged views on current regional and international topics," Vucic noted.

"Amid complex geopolitical circumstances and challenges on the European and global markets, a secure and stable supply of energy - primarily, gas - is crucial for Serbia. I said that we will continue to conduct a responsible energy policy in the interest of the citizens and businesses," he posted.
