BELGRADE - Serbian Armed Forces Chief of General Staff Gen Milan Mojsilovic met with KFOR Commander Ozkan Ulutas in Belgrade on Friday to discuss the security situation on the ground and activities conducted by the Serbian Armed Forces and KFOR.
At a regular high-level meeting that was a part of broader activities aimed at maintaining security in Kosovo-Metohija and stability in the region, it was noted that the situation in the province was volatile and fragile and that international security forces must remain alert and prepared to react rapidly, the Serbian MoD said in a statement.
To monitor the situation on the ground and avert outbreaks of crises and escalations thereof, it is exceptionally important to continue regular and open communication at all levels, it was said at the meeting.
Mojsilovic pointed out that unilateral moves by the Pristina provisional institutions, including aspirations to join military alliances and transform the so-called Kosovo Security Force into an army, had a negative effect on security in the region, and noted that Serbia saw KFOR as the only legitimate armed formation in Kosovo-Metohija and that it had the duty to ensure a secure environment to all in the province and protect the Serbs as the most jeopardised part of the population.
