BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday he had had an open discussion with US Under Secretary of State for Public Diplomacy Sarah B Rogers to discuss all areas of joint interest, and noted that a confirmation of US participation in EXPO 2027 in Belgrade was a great recognition to Serbia that confirmed the reputation the country had built on the international scene.

In a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account, Vucic noted that EXPO 2027 would be the greatest international event in the modern history of Serbia and "an opportunity for us to present to the world a modern, successful and open country that is ready to further develop partnerships and strengthen its economic and political position."

"I believe that, during EXPO 2027, Belgrade will send a strong picture of Serbia as a country of stability, development and new opportunities," Vucic added.

He pointed out that this year marked the 145th anniversary of Serbia-US relations, which he noted was a strong foundation for further strengthening the partnership and political dialogue.

"Economic cooperation between our countries continues to grow, with an increasing number of American companies that are investing in Serbia, especially in infrastructure, energy and new technologies. At the same time, trade is rising as well, which confirms that Serbia is becoming an increasingly important partner to the US in the region," Vucic posted.

He added that Serbia remained open to further cooperation with US partners, especially in the field of renewables and new investments, with a view to continuing to build a modern, stable and economically strong Serbia.

Earlier in the day, Serbia's EXPO 2027 Commissioner Jagoda Lazarevic, who is also minister of internal and external trade, EXPO 2027 Director Danilo Jerinic and Rogers signed a contract on US participation in the specialised expo.
