Macut receives representatives of biomedical faculties

BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with representatives of group of state-run biomedical faculties on Tuesday to discuss an analysis of, and improvements to, the educational process in the country.

"The interlocutors paid special attention during the talks to the needs of the decentralised health system, improving the accessibility of health care, as well as harmonising the enrolment policy and study programmes of the faculties of medicine, the Faculty of Pharmacy, the Faculty of Dental Medicine and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Belgrade with the real needs in Serbia," a government statement said.

"At the meeting in the Serbian government, models for more efficient completion of studies, higher student pass rate and their faster employment at the level of administrative districts and local governments were also discussed, with the aim of ensuring, above all, a sufficient number of physicians, especially at the level of primary health care.

In this regard, the beginning of implementation of the plan for the establishment of municipal health centres was cited as an example, which will enable citizens throughout Serbia to have more accessible and efficient general and specialised health care in the places where they live.

One of the topics of the meeting between Macut and the deans of the faculties was measures to encourage the employment and stay of physicians in smaller communities and local governments, for the purpose of balanced development of the health system and the strengthening of health care in the interior of Serbia," it said.

The meeting with Macut and Minister of Science, Technological Development and Innovation Bela Balint was attended by the deans and vice-deans of medical faculties in Serbia, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine in Belgrade.
