Ghobash: UAE sees Serbia as important partner

BELGRADE - Addressing a special sitting of the Serbian parliament, the Speaker of the UAE Federal National Council Saqr Ghobash said on Wednesday his country saw Serbia as an important partner and that bilateral cooperation was an opportunity to boost development, expand investments and build bridges between two regions that needed greater communication and understanding.

Ghobash noted that the UAE saw Serbia as a country with a strategic position and human and economic capacities as well as respectable state experience.

"Also, we see the cooperation between our countries as an opportunity to advance development, expand investments and build bridges between two regions that need greater communication and understanding," he said.

Ghobash said parliamentary democracy could be a voice of reason in a turbulent world because parliaments were able to cherish a culture of dialogue and articulate the positions of their nations, as well as to build trust among societies, reminding governments that politics should be in service of humanity, rather than make it a victim of conflicts.

"I confirm that the UAE Federal National Council expects a strengthening of cooperation with the Serbian parliament, development of communication mechanisms, an expansion of experience-sharing and coordination of positions in regional and international parliamentary forums in a manner that is in service of peace, development and respect for international law," Ghobash said.

The UAE will remain a dependable partner to all those striving for peace, stability and development, he added.
