BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Enlargement and Eastern Neighbourhood Gert Jan Koopman in Belgrade on Thursday.
Speaking to Tanjug after the discussions, Macut said the meeting had been very constructive and important for opening the next chapters in Serbia's EU accession talks.
"We had a meeting with our national commission for the implementation of an action plan as part of the EU enlargement plan, and we had a good overview of the situation we are in with the deadlines expiring at the end of June. We concluded that we have only a few outstanding issues. Three issues have to do with problems related to the energy sector - the requirements we must meet by the end of June - and one has to do with interior affairs," Macut said.
He said the two sides had agreed to step up cooperation at weekly level to exchange information with a view to meeting June 30 deadlines set for Serbia.
"I think this is a good path, at communication level with the European Commission, and that we had an opportunity to see Mr Koopman today, as well as his team and the EU ambassador to Serbia," Macut said.
"This is a good path to achieving the goals set in the reform agenda for mid-2026," he noted.
"And to being prepared for opening the next chapters in the coming period, as well as for the next things regarding full EU accession," he added.
