BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with Greek FM Giorgos Gerapetritis in Belgrade on Friday to discuss further strengthening of bilateral relations, stepping up of cooperation in many areas and Serbia’s European path.
"Macut emphasised that Serbia and Greece are friendly and fraternal states and that, as strategic partners, they can raise cooperation to an even higher level, to the benefit of the citizens of both countries.
He conveyed his gratitude to Gerapetritis for Greece’s support in achieving Serbia’s strategic commitment and foreign policy priority - full membership in the European Union, expressing his belief that Greece will also make efforts to accelerate the integration of the Western Balkan countries during its presidency of the EU Council in the second half of 2027," the Serbian government said in a statement.
"Serbia greatly appreciates Greece’s support on this path, as well as its respect for Serbia’s sovereignty and territorial integrity," Macut noted.
He said Serbia was interested in "intensifying cooperation in many areas, from the economy to energy connectivity, traffic and transport, science, education and sports."
"Serbia’s goal is also for as many Greek companies as possible to invest in Serbia, which is today the largest and most promising economy in the Western Balkans and a regional leader in attracting foreign investment," Macut said.
"The Prime Minister also stated that Greece’s participation in Specialised Expo 2027 in Belgrade will contribute to the further development of economic relations between the two countries," the statement said.
"Gerapetritis stressed that there is no future for the Western Balkans if Serbia is not a part of the European Union, adding that Serbia can count on Greece’s full support regarding accession to the EU," it also said.
