BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Friday a statement released by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade regarding the "sonic cannon" case had fully laid bare a monstrous and detailed plan to cause mass panic, street clashes and a civil war in Serbia through fabricaed lies about alleged use of a "sonic cannon."
"The statement by the Higher Public Prosecutor's Office in Belgrade has laid bare, to the core, the monstrous plan of those who have been, without any shame or sense of responsibility, engaging in hybrid warfare against the state of Serbia and the Ministry of Interior Affairs for months now," Dacic said in an official statement.
It has now been officially proven that "the brutal lie that police used a 'sound cannon' against citizens on the Slavija Square was no 'mistake' or 'fact-checking,'" he noted.
It was a cold-blooded scenario planned a month beforehand with the single aim of causing mass panic, street clashes and, ultimately, a civil war in Serbia, Dacic added.
As the Serbian police were doing their job in the most professional and restrained manner, protecting public order and peace, some political circles and their media were consciously pushing disinformation about alleged police brutality in an attempt to set Serbia on fire, he said.
"The fact from the investigation that is especially shocking and terrifying is that, in their dark plans, they were counting on, as they themselves said, a 'massive response from Brussels'. That shows clearly who is giving orders and who has an interest in Serbia being weak, destabilised and stifled, and run through external pressure," Dacic said.
Earlier in the day, the Prosecutor's Office said evidence gathered in the building of the Faculty of Philosophy in Belgrade indicated that, at a January 2025 meeting of the Students In Blockade organisation ahead of a March 15, 2025 protest in Belgrade, the participants had said a "sonic cannon" would elicit "a massive response from Brussels", and noted that "a solution where people get out of the way when they see a sonic cannon has been the practice in China."
The participants of the meeting and other unidentified persons are suspected to have taken actions in the period that followed to simulate the use of a "sonic cannon" by state authorities during the March 15, 2025 protest in Belgrade in order to accuse them in the domestic and international public of using a "sonic cannon" and to cause panic, strike fear among the citizens and spark unrest that would lead to a violent overthrow of the constitutional order and put the security of the state under threat, the Prosecutor's Office said.
