BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Monday everyone knew that no sonic cannon had been used at a March 15 protest in Belgrade last year and that he now urged European security agencies to come and investigate whether than had been the case.
Responding to questions from reporters after the opening of the 21st World Congress of the International Economic Association (IEA), Vucic noted that all those who were talking about a sonic cannon while knowing that none had been used were forcing people to lie that a sonic cannon had been utilised.
"The FBI and the FSB have been invited, and the FBI has said it cannot participate due to its procedures. But I have no problem with that - I once again invite the FBI and now also the European agencies, because, at the time, due to a lack of objectivity of some in Europe, we invited the Americans and the Russians," Vucic said.
He added that he would invite whoever was proposed to come to investigate the allegations about a sonic cannon.
"Whoever comes will tell you that there was no sonic cannon - because there were none," Vucic noted.
He added that he also understood the policy of those who had no support among the people and were taking part in a fierce "anti-Vucic campaign" to get political gains or votes for a student-led electoral list.
"Everyone from this country's security sector knows it (the sonic cannon allegations) is a lie. We think we also know who it came from, but we will leave it to the prosecutor to clarify that in the coming days," Vucic noted.
