Serbian government approves transfer of WWII fighter Jovovic's remains from Argentina

BELGRADE - The members of the Serbian government agreed on Thursday that the remains of WWII fighter Blagoje Jovovic be transferred to Serbia from Argentina and laid to rest in Belgrade.

In a statement, the government said the decision honoured Jovovic, who attempted to assassinate Croat Ustasha leader Ante Pavelic in Lomas del Palomar, Argentina, in 1957.

Pavelic survived but died two years later due to health complications and wounds resulting from the assassination attempt.

During WWII, Jovovic was a member of the Yugoslav Army in the Fatherland.

April 10 - the date of the establishment of the infamous Independent State of Croatia in 1941 - was symbolically set as the date of the assassination attempt.
