BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Tuesday in Belgrade with Interpol Secretary General Valdecy Urquiza to discuss further strengthening of cooperation in the fight against all forms of organised crime and security threats that know no boundaries.

"We devoted special attention to advancement of information exchange, the fight against cyber crime, financial crime, human trafficking and drug trafficking, as well as to strengthening the capacities of our institutions through international police cooperation," Vucic posted on Instagram.

He added that he was proud of the results achieved by Serbia's security authorities in international police cooperation and that he was especially glad a large number of countries were providing significant support to the idea of Belgrade becoming the seat of a regional Interpol bureau.

"That would be an important acknowledgement to our country and a confirmation of our role in preservation of regional and international security," Vucic noted.

He expressed the belief that, through joint work, Serbia's cooperation with Interpol would be advanced further to the benefit of the citizens and for the sake of common security.

Urquiza, who is on an official visit to Serbia, met with PM Djuro Macut and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic on Monday.
