BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday he would resign from his post a few days after calling parliamentary elections.

"In my capacity as president of the Republic, I must call parliamentary elections, and then I will resign after a few days," Vucic told Pink TV.

He added that, if the ruling Serbian Progressive Party wanted him to be a candidate for PM, he would not be campaigning as president of the Republic, but as an ordinary citizen.

"I want to demonstrate that I can have all the same conditions as everyone else, and fight and win," Vucic said.

Asked if he was too tired for another election race, Vucic responded that saying he was not tired at all would be a lie, as would saying that he had no energy left.

He reiterated that parliamentary elections would be held first and that presidential elections would follow.
