Dacic, Hungarian interior minister discuss cooperation in areas of common interest

BELGRADE - In a telephone call, Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Hungarian Interior Minister Gabor Posfai noted on Friday that their countries shared common security challenges on the Western Balkan migration route.

In light of Posfai's recent successful visit to Belgrade, Dacic noted that the discussion confirmed "the exceptional commitment of the two countries to improving cooperation in areas of common interest," the Serbian government said in a statement.

"The interlocutors pointed out that Serbia and Hungary share common security challenges on the Western Balkan migration route, which is why work on preparing a new agreement on combating human trafficking has been intensified.

Dacic and Posfai assessed that Hungary and Serbia are not only close neighbours, but also responsible and reliable partners in terms of the security challenges facing our region."

Dacic said the Serbian Interior Ministry remained committed to an "initiative to establish an Interpol Regional Bureau in Belgrade, with the aim of more effectively combatting all forms of crime and strengthening the stability of the region."

"He explained that, in addition to improving the capacity of police officers through direct international cooperation, this initiative would also enable more efficient exchange of information, many new projects and training, while the region’s visibility in Interpol would be improved."
