Macut: Serbia-North Macedonia cooperation to see even greater upsurge in future

OHRID - Speaking to reporters in Ohrid after Friday's meeting with North Macedonian counterpart Hristijan Mickoski, Serbian PM Djuro Macut said he was confident the cooperation between the two countries would see an even greater upsurge in the future, and noted that transport, infrastructure, energy ties, agriculture and tourism were the areas that held the greatest potential.

Macut said they had had discussed numerous topics that were significant not only for bilateral cooperation, but for the development of the entire region as well. "I had the pleasure of speaking with the PM of the Republic North Macedonia, Mr Hristijan Mickoski, in Ohrid today about topics that our two countries have in common and that have to do with the biggest current developments regarding, above all, transport and improvement of the communication between the two countries," Macut said.

Noting the significance of common border checkpoints that have already facilitated the flow of passengers and goods, he said the meeting had also addressed capital projects in the railway sector. "Railway transport definitely needs to see a major change in the Republic of North Macedonia with the start of works to build, improve and overhaul the rail line between Serbia and Greece. It will be a modernised high-speed rail line that will certainly contribute to faster transport," Macut noted.

Macut and Mickoski also discussed plans to build a gas interconnector and preparatory activities for drawing up tender documentation. "We discussed possibilities for carrying that over to the level of cooperation regarding oil - in fact, for making a connection for both gas and oil, which will definitely be something we will also discuss in the period to come," Macut said, adding that air transport connections had also been discussed. Macut said Serbia's relations with the country rested upon concrete projects and mutual economic interests, and noted that North Macedonia had a central place in Serbia's regional plans.

Macut, Mickoski meet in Ohrid to discuss Serbia-North Macedonia cooperation, relations

OHRID - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with North Macedonian counterpart Hristijan Mickoski in Ohrid on Friday afternoon to discuss advancement of cooperation and bilateral relations between the two countries.

The two PMs exchanged views on bilateral cooperation in numerous areas, including infrastructure, energy and agriculture.

A tete-a-tete meeting between Macut and Mickoski was followed by a meeting of delegations of the two countries and a working lunch.

The Serbian delegation, headed by Macut, also includes Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic, Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic, Minister of Agriculture, Forestry and Water Management Dragan Glamocic and other aides.

Earlier in the afternoon, Macut and the ministers were welcomed by North Macedonian Interior Minister Timco Mucunski at the Ohrid airport.
