Interior ministries of Serbia, Namibia sign MoU

BELGRADE - The interior ministries of Serbia and Namibia signed on Wednesday in Belgrade a MoU on cooperation aimed at preventing serious criminal offences, especially in the fight against organised crime and international terrorism.

After a meeting at the Palace of Serbia, the MoU was inked by Serbian Interior Minister Ivica Dacic and Namibian Minister of Home Affairs, Immigration, Safety and Security Lucia Iipumbu.

"Namibia and Serbia are two exceptionally friendly countries, Dacic said, noting that Namibia is one of the countries that have consistently supported international law and has not recognised the unilaterally declared independence of 'Kosovo,'" an official statement said.

"He explained that the signed MoU establishes cooperation aimed at preventing serious crime, particularly in the fight against organised crime and international terrorism, while it also envisages cooperation in the area of professional development and training for police officers and senior police officials.

Iipumbu emphasised that the cooperation will be mutually beneficial and will build on the longstanding ties between the two countries.

According to her, the memorandum will strengthen Namibia’s security capacities through various mechanisms," the statement also said.
