Vucic, Guterres discuss situation in Kosovo-Metohija, implementation of UNSCR 1244

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic met on Thursday in New York with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres to discuss, among other issues, the security situation in Kosovo-Metohija and the significance of full implementation of UNSCR 1244 and the work of UNMIK, the UN mission in the Serbian province.

"For Serbia, the UN is the most significant international organisation, with which we maintain versatile cooperation, and its role in the preservation of the territorial integrity and sovereignty of our country is especially significant to us," Vucic posted on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account.

He especially thanked Guterres for his personal engagement, principled approach and support for Serbia, as well as for his personal advocacy of preservation of peace and respect for international law.

He noted that he had had a cordial and open discussion with Guterres about key global challenges, preservation of peace and security, as well as a need for more efficient multilateralism.

"Serbia will continue to be a constructive and responsible partner in the UN, committed to preservation of peace and stability, regional cooperation and resolution of outstanding issues through dialogue and sincere cooperation," Vucic concluded.

Earlier, Vucic met with the UK's special Western Balkans envoy Karen Pierce, Georgian PM Irakli Kobahidze, North Macedonian PM Hristijan Mickoski, Russian FM Sergey Lavrov and German FM Johann Wadephul.
