NOVI SAD - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday the situation in the north of Kosovo-Metohija was very difficult and tense as Pristina was expected to try to elect false mayors for three Serb-majority municipalities on Friday.
Speaking to reporters in Novi Sad, Vucic said he was very concerned over the situation and that the mayors had been elected "in the falsest and the most disgraceful elections in the world" with an average turnout of 3.4 pct and support from Quint states.
"I ask the Serbs that we preserve peace, and they (Pristina's representatives) will not be accepted as mayors. That is abuse against the Serbs and an attempt to create an atmosphere in which the Serbs would leave their ancestral homes," Vucic said.
He said he had spoken with US officials Derek Chollet, Gabriel Escobar and Christopher Hill on Wednesday.
"The situation is very difficult and tense, especially in the north of Kosovo-Metohija," Vucic noted.
