BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Tuesday evening he had learned earlier in the day that the US and Germany had counted on 115 secure votes for a UN General Assembly resolution on Srebrenica.
"That is how they went to (representatives) of large countries, especially large Islamic countries - to inform them that at least 120 countries, or 115 in the worst case, but objectively 120 countries, would be in favour," Vucic said on the RTS.
But that did not happen because they underestimated Serbia and believed that, being a small country, it is unable to oppose them, Vucic said.
"They were furious with me, they did not understand how high the reputation of Serbia - and my personal reputation, if you want me to be insufficiently modest for a moment - is among the freedom-loving countries and peoples of the global south. I used it not for myself personally, for the party I love or anything else - I used it for our country, and I will always do so in the future," Vucic said.
