Serbia's sljivovica inscribed in UNESCO intangible heritage list

RABAT - Serbia's famous plum brandy - sljivovica - has been inscribed in UNESCO's List of Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity.

The decision on the inscription was made by the Committee for the Safeguarding of the Intangible Cultural Heritage at a recent session in Rabat, Morocco.

The nomination of Social Practices and Knowledge Related to Preparation and Use of the Traditional Plum Beverage - Sljivovica, an Element of Serbia's Intangible Cultural Heritage, was proposed by the Ethnographic Museum in Belgrade and the National Museum in Cacak and prepared by the Ethnographic Museum's Centre for Intangible Cultural Heritage in collaboration with heritage holders, local communities, institutions, NGOs and associations.

Sljivovica was nominated for inscription in the list by the Serbian Ministry of Culture in 2021.
