Blockade of RTS ends after 14 days

BELGRADE - Student protesters and their supporters ended a 14-day blockade of the buildings of national public broadcaster RTS on Monday evening after the Serbian parliamentary committee on culture and information decided to annul a competition to elect the Council of the Regulatory Authority for Electronic Media (REM) and open a new one.

Traffic around the RTS building on Takovska Street in central Belgrade returned to normal at midnight and all barricades were removed.

"A new competition for the REM Council has been opened. Thus, the blockade of the RTS is over, after 14 days," student protesters from the Belgrade Faculty of Dramatic Arts posted on X on Monday evening.

The RTS, which was forced to use an altered schedule due to the blockade of its buildings, has recently filed a criminal complaint against unknown perpetrators of the blockade and has also requested a reaction from international institutions.
