BELGRADE - The Board of Directors of Serbia's public service broadcaster RTS has decided to name Manja Grcic RTS director-general for a five-year term.

A journalist with many years of experience in management positions at several media companies, Grcic is the first woman to become RTS director-general.

The decision to appoint Grcic completes a public competition opened on December 17, the RTS said. Besides Grcic, five other candidates - Dragoljub Stankic, Dejan Stankovic, Sladjana Ivancevic, Milos Tanaskovic and Stanislav Veljkovic - met the requirements of the competition.

The RTS Board of Directors had decided to open the competition after all candidates that met the requirements of a previous one failed to secure a two-thirds majority of votes.

The term of former RTS director-general Dragan Bujosevic expired on February 3.

Grcic was a co-owner and director-general of the Minacord Media company, as well as director-general of the Tanjug News Agency and Tanjug TV, and is also the founder of Majo Public, an integrated communications agency specialising in strategies, branding, digital marketing and public relations.

With more than 20 years of experience in media and communications, Grcic is recognised for her ability to develop strategies, manage complex projects and achieve long-term results.

As director-general, she was at the helm of the regional media platform Antenna Group Serbia and Montenegro from 2015 to 2019, transforming it from a loss-making into a profitable company with a more than 300 pct EBITDA increase over a period of three years.

She has managed television stations in Slovenia and Serbia, including TV3 Slovenia, Fox TV and the Media Sistem production company, as well as the Pink Media Group.
