Serbian patriarch, US envoy discuss cooperation between Serbs, Americans

BELGRADE - Patriarch Porfirije of the Serbian Orthodox Church has received US Special Envoy for Global Partnerships Paolo Zampolli, and the historical friendship between Serbs and Americans and possibilities for advancing it were the main topic of the meeting.

The meeting was held on April 21 at the patriarchal residence in Belgrade, the Serbian Orthodox Church said in a statement, adding that Zampolli had expressed gratitude for the opportunity to speak with the religious leader of the Serbs.

The potential for advancing the cooperation is greater if the two peoples are rooted in their Christian and national identities, Patriarch Porfirije was quoted as saying.
