Djokovic to face Michelsen or Bu in Shanghai second round

SHANGHAI - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic, who is seeded in the first round of the Shanghai Masters, will face the winner of the tie between American Alex Michelsen and Chinese Yunchaokete Bu in the second round of the tournament.

Djokovic could face Frenchman Giovanni Mpetshi Perricard or Italian Flavio Cobolli in the third round and Kazakhstan's Alexander Bublik or American Frances Tiafoe in the fourth round.

In the quarter-final, Djokovic will potentially face Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov or Russian Andrey Rublev.

In the semi-final, he could face German Alexander Zverev - the highest-ranked potential opponent in the lower part of the draw - or American Taylor Fritz.

Potential finalists from the other part of the draw include Italian Jannik Sinner, Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz and Russian Daniil Medvedev.

In the first round of the tournament, Serbian Miomir Kecmanovic will face Australian Alexei Popyrin, who knocked out Djokovic from the US Open.

The Shanghai Masters will be taking place from October 2 through 13.

Title holder Hubert Hurkacz of Poland will skip the tournament due to a knee injury.
