Danilovic beats Azarenka to advance to Madrid Masters second round

MADRID - Serbian tennis player Olga Danilovic is through to the second round of the Madrid Masters tournament after a 6-4, 6-2 win over world number 48 Victoria Azarenka of Belarus in the opening round on Wednesday.

Danilovic, who is 34th in the WTA rankings, won after an hour and 31 minutes of play.

She will next face Russian Ekaterina Alexandrova.

Seventeen-year-old Serbian Teodora Kostovic lost 6-2, 6-2 to German Eva Lys in the opening round.

In the men's event, Serbia's Laslo Djere is through to the second round after defeating Italian Fabio Fognini 6-2, 6-3 in the first round.

Djere will next play Russian Daniil Medvedev.

Earlier, Dusan Lajovic lost 6-3, 6-4 to American Ethan Quinn in the opening round.
