Djokovic withdraws from Indian Wells draw

LOS ANGELES - Serbia's Novak Djokovic, the world number one in men's tennis, has officially withdrawn from the draw of the Indian Wells Masters tournament.

The decision is due to the fact an entry ban for foreign nationals who are not vaccinated against the coronavirus remains in place in the US, Reuters reported.

Djokovic, who is one of the most prominent athletes who have not taken a coronavirus jab, last month applied for a special permission to enter the US in order to play at the Indian Wells and Miami tournaments.

The Indian Wells tournament begins on Monday.
