Djokovic wins Globe Sports Award

DUBAI - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic was honoured with the Globe Sports Award in Dubai on Sunday.

Djokovic received the award from Portuguese footballer Cristiano Ronaldo, Arabic-language media reported.

The award, handed out by Globe Soccer Award, was introduced this year to recognise "excellence beyond a single sport, celebrating athletes whose careers reflect determination, longevity and global inspiration."

"It is a great surprise. I am always caught off guard, but in a positive way,” Djokovic said after receiving the honour.

"Receiving this from Ronaldo is a dream come true. I am thankful to call him a friend and someone who always inspires," he added.

"We are not part of the same sport, but we push each other,” he said.

“Standing here together and talking about how sport can inspire children around the world is something we look forward to,” Djokovic noted.

Djokovic has won 24 Grand Slam titles to date.
