Djokovic defeats Martinez to advance to Australian Open second round

MELBOURNE - Serbia's top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic is through to the second round of the Australian Open after a 6-3, 6-2, 6-2 first-round victory over Spaniard Pedro Martinez on Monday.

Djokovic, who is placed fourth in the ATP rankings, defeated world number 71 Martinez after two hours of play.

This was the 100th career Aussie Open win for Djokovic.

The Serbian will next face Italian Francesco Maestrelli, who beat Frenchman Terence Atmane 6-4, 3-6, 6-7 (4-7), 6-1, 6-1 earlier in the day.
