MELBOURNE - Serbian tennis player Novak Djokovic lost 2-6, 6-2, 6-3, 7-5 to Spaniard Carlos Alcaraz in the Australian Open final on Sunday.
Alcaraz, who won after three hours and two minutes of play, is now 5-5 head-to-head against Djokovic, clinched his first career Australian Open title and his seventh Grand Slam title.
Djokovic, 38, has 24 Grand Slam trophies, including 10 Australian Open titles.
The Serbian is up by one position in the latest ATP rankings, released on Monday.
With 5,280 points, Djokovic is in third place, behind Alcaraz (13,650) and Italian Jannik Sinner (10,300).
In Saturday's Australian Open women's doubles final, the Serbian-Kazakh duo of Aleksandra Krunic and Anna Danilina lost 7-6 7-4, 6-4 to the Belgian-Chinese pairing of Elise Mertens and Shuai Zhang after an hour and 50 minutes of play.
