LONDON - Serbia's top-ranked tennis player Novak Djokovic is through to the third round at Wimbledon after beating Australian Jordan Thompson (6-3, 7-6 (7-4), 7-5) on Wednesday evening.
Djokovic, who won after two hours and 30 minutes of play, will next face the winner of the tie between Stan Wawrinka of Switzerland and Tomas Etcheverry of Argentina.
Serbia's Laslo Djere advanced to the second round after defeating American Maxime Cressy 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (10-8), 7-6 (9-7).
He will next face American Ben Shelton, who beat Japan's Taro Daniel 6-4, 6-3, 3-6, 4-6, 6-3.
In the women's singles event, Serbian Natalija Stevanovic caused an upset by defeating Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic 6-2, 6-3.
In the second round, Stevanovic will face German Tamara Korpatsch.
