WASHINGTON - Serbian First Deputy PM and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali met with World Bank President Ajay Banga in Washington on Friday to discuss the most important topics concerning the world economy, above all, the impact of tariffs and the trade war among the US, China and the EU, as well as Serbia's bid to host the annual IMF/World Bank meeting in 2029.
Mali and Banga met at the World Bank headquarters as part of a meeting of the Swiss Constituency, which Serbia is a part of.
"A very important and a very constructive meeting with World Bank President Banga. It is not very often that you have an opportunity to discuss with him the most significant topics currently affecting the world economy. The issues were the impact of tariffs, the trade war among China, America and the EU, as well as the way that is impacting economies, including the Serbian economy," Mali said after the meeting.
He said energy independence and development of nuclear energy had been discussed as well.
Mali also said Poland had announced it would participate in the EXPO 2027 in Belgrade and that, to date, a total of 94 countries had confirmed they would take part in the event.
Mali is in Washington for the April 21-26 IMF/World Bank Spring Meeting.
