Momirovic: Serbian gov't was wrong to end lithium story

MT KOPAONIK - Putting an end to the lithium story is one of the biggest mistakes of the previous Serbian government, Minister of Internal and External Trade Tomislav Momirovic said on Monday, noting that the previous cabinet - himself included - had failed to demonstrate the maturity needed to bring the story to completion as it was a natural opportunity for Serbia.

"That might have been a historical responsibility and I, too, voted for that decision. I would like to remind you that some officials of foreign countries backed protests against lithium exploitation, which were populistic," Momirovic said at the Kopaonik Business Forum.

The government's decision to end the lithium story is not in the interest of the citizens, he noted.

"We will see how it develops in the period to come, but we cannot ignore the perspectives it opens up," Momirovic said.
