BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic met with a delegation of the French power company EDF in Belgrade on Friday.
The delegation was led by Vakis Ramany, the firm's vice president for nuclear programme development.
The conclusions of a preliminary technical study on peaceful use of nuclear power in Serbia were presented at the meeting.
"The preliminary study is the first step giving us guidelines focusing on the necessary early steps and the priority infrastructure issues to build a solid foundation for efficient development of a nuclear programme," Djedovic Handanovic said.
The recommendations and timelines for all priority issues were established at the meeting, based on recommendations from the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) and the EDF's considerable experience as one of the world's leading nuclear power operators, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement.
Under an approach mandated by the IAEA, implementation of the first two phases of the development of a nuclear programme in Serbia will take an estimated five to seven years, Djedovic Handanovic said.
She also said the study integrated findings from three joint workshops held by Serbian and French experts in Belgrade in late 2024 and early 2025.
