NIS requests new licence delaying US sanctions

BELGRADE - Serbia's Russian majority-owned oil company NIS has sent a new request to the US Department of the Treasury for a special license delaying full implementation of US sanctions and enabling the firm to operate without obstructions beyond September 26, when the previous license expires.

The request was submitted on September 18, NIS said in a statement.

On March 14, the company also requested from the US Department of the Treasury to be removed from the Specially Designated Nationals list, which is a lengthy and complex process.

Full implementation of the US sanctions on NIS has been delayed on six occasions to date.
