BELGRADE - Serbian First Deputy PM and Finance Minister Sinisa Mali and European Investment Bank (EIB) Vice President Robert de Groot signed on Monday in Belgrade a contract on an EIB loan for a second stage of reconstruction works at clinical centres in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Nis and Kragujevac, worth an estimated 662 mln euros.
The signing of the 157 mln euro contract officially marked the beginning of the second stage of the project, which encompasses modernisation, renovation and expansion of the four clinical centres.
An investment by the Serbian government accounts for 347 mln euros of the total project value, while two contracts on EIB loans make up the rest of the amount.
A second, 158 mln euro contract is due to be signed in 2026.
"Strengthening, modernising, equipping and reconstructing health care institutions is of strategic importance for the Government of Serbia and, with assistance from partners such as the EIB, we continue an investment wave in the health care system that we have already launched," Mali said after the signing of the contract.
