BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic met with Czech Ambassador to Belgrade Jan Bondi on Wednesday to discuss possibilities for advancement of bilateral cooperation, with special focus on development of railway infrastructure.

The possibility of reestablishing a direct passenger railway line between Belgrade and Prague was a particular topic, Sofronijevic's ministry said in a statement.

"The completion of a Budapest-Belgrade high-speed railway line, with the already launched freight traffic and anticipated passenger traffic, is a strong impetus to regional connectivity and further development of the railways, which opens up space for reestablishing a direct passenger line between Belgrade and Prague, along with the possibility of including a stop in Bratislava and connecting with Vienna," Sofronijevic said.

She said Serbia-Czechia relations were open and friendly and represented a strong foundation for further strengthening of comprehensive partnership relations in the interests of the citizens and businesses.

"Through joint work, we can achieve significant results," Sofronijevic said.

Sofronijevic and Bondi also discussed involvement of Czech companies in implementation of ongoing and future projects in Serbia, and especially noted the significance of an exchange of know-how, expertise and best practices between institutions in the two countries with the aim of continued advancement of institutional and economic cooperation.
