Serbia's budget spending for research and development totalled 42.4 bln dinars in 2025

BELGRADE - In 2025, budget spending for research and development activities in Serbia totalled 42.4 bln dinars, which was a 8.9 pct increase relative to the year before, according to figures released by the national statistical office RZS on Friday.

The funds allocated for research and development accounted for 0.41 pct of the 2025 budget.

The government sector received the majority of the funds (65.1 pct), and was followed by the higher education sector (24 pct), the private non-profit sector (6.1 pct), the non-financial (business) sector (3.6 pct) and the foreign sector (1.2 pct).

Viewed by socio-economic goals, the majority of budget funds allocated for research and development were spent on General Advancement of Knowledge - Research and Development funded by general university funds (33.7 pct), Industrial Production and Technology (15.5 pct) and Agriculture (11.5 pct), with the least amount of funds spent on Space Research and Exploitation (0.4 pct).

Prior to a review of the 2026 budget, the funds planned for research and development for this year totalled 42.3 bln dinars.
