BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic said on Tuesday energy transition was important for Serbia and the entire region and announced that the final draft of Serbia's energy and climate plan until 2030 would be completed in September and tabled for adoption in the autumn.

She said a draft decree on determining an Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan until 2023 with projections until 2050 would be subject to public debate until July 27.

"A strategy and the Integrated National Energy and Climate Plan will be the foundation of Serbia's new energy policy and the key instrument for steering the development of our energy sector," Djedovic said during a debate at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia.

She said that, besides the public sector, businesses and citizens, too, must participate in the work on the plan.

"An integrated energy and climate plan is our commitment that issues from the energy law, as well as from our international obligations. That path is necessary for us to set goals regarding energy efficiency, renewable energy sources and reduction of harmful gas emissions," she said.

"With this plan, which focuses on 2030, we want to demonstrate the direction of the development of our energy sector, coordinated with the Ministry of Environmental Protection as well as with public enterprises in the energy sector," Djedovic said.
